The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) released its annual Global Peace Index. The report ranks 163 independent states and territories based on their level of peacefulness. In the last year, the global peacefulness average dropped by 0.07 percent. This is possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as lockdowns and economic uncertainty caused civil unrest in various countries.
As in previous years, European countries dominated the top 10. Iceland managed to remain the most peaceful country in the world. Iceland is followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, and Slovenia. So if you’re looking to relocate to Europe soon, make sure to check out the list below.

1. Iceland
#1 in the Safest Countries
Iceland is still on the top of the list of the most peaceful countries in the world. The country has maintained its position since 2008. In Iceland, perceptions of criminality indicators improved. Iceland’s incarceration rate of 33 per 100,000 people is the lowest in Europe.

2. New Zealand
#2 in the Safest Countries
New Zealand ranks second on the global list. With a stable politics and economy and respect for human rights, New Zealand is the most peaceful country in the Asia-Pasific region. The country has been relatively unaffected by COVID-19.

4. Portugal
#4 in the Safest Countries
